Reddit for brand monitoring: why UK businesses ignore it at their peril
Type almost any "is X any good" query into Google and a Reddit thread appears in the results. Those threads are read for years, they carry more trust than advertising, and most businesses have no idea what theirs say.
Why Reddit punches above its weight
Reddit answers rank prominently in search, partly because buyers add the word "reddit" to their searches on purpose, hunting for unvarnished opinion. A three-year-old thread calling your installation team unreliable can quietly shape every buying decision that finds it. Equally, one thread of praise from a stranger outsells a page of testimonials you wrote yourself.
How to watch it
Search your brand name, common misspellings, and category phrases in your area weekly at minimum. Watch the local subreddit for your city and any specialist communities in your sector. Automated monitoring through Reddit's official API does this daily without anyone burning an afternoon.
The rules of engagement
Reddit is openly hostile to marketing. If you join a thread, do it as a named, declared representative, answer the specific complaint factually, and leave. Never astroturf with fake accounts; communities are practised at spotting it and the resulting thread about being caught will outrank everything else about you.
When not to engage
Old threads with no activity are usually better left alone; replying resurrects them in feeds. Note the criticism, fix the cause, and let it sink.
MyView watches every mention of your brand and tells you what needs a reply.
