Turning positive mentions into marketing assets
Every week, customers say things about you that your marketing team could never write, because self-praise converts nobody and third-party praise converts everyone. Most of it evaporates unread. Capture is a system, not a mood.
The capture habit
Monitoring surfaces the raw material: the delighted review, the unprompted forum recommendation, the tagged photo. File them the day they appear, with links, in one place. A shared folder beats a perfect tool that nobody opens.
Permission first
A public post is publicly visible, but reusing it in your marketing is a different act. Ask: a short, warm message requesting permission to quote, screenshot or reshare, takes a minute and is almost always granted, often deepening the relationship. For photos of people, always. Keep a record of consents.
Redeployment routes
- Website: specific quotes beat generic ones; sort by service so each page carries its own proof
- Proposals and quotes: two relevant customer sentences in a pitch outperform a page of your own claims
- Social: a monthly "what customers said" post recycles proof without smugness
- Sales replies: "here is what another kitchen customer in your area said" answers doubt with peers
The compounding trick
Replying warmly to praise generates more praise; publicly valuing customer words teaches customers their words are valued. The businesses drowning in testimonials built the loop, not the luck.
